My new song, inspired by a precious, yet hidden, passage from the Hagakure, the secret code of the Samurai.

"Some time ago, at a gathering, it was stated: we agree that the greatest love is the secret one. When one meets the loved one, love loses its intensity. In thinking, secretly, all your life, about your loved one and then dying, lies the essence of true love. As the poem says, 'At my death, from the smoke you will know my love, kept hidden in my heart.' After some recognised that this is the highest form of love, the group 'Friends of Smoke' was formed." 

So there is a lost oriental poem, which we may never find again... But we can enter into the spirit of the poet and let it be reborn, recreated and resonate through us. May the 'Friends of Smoke' not hold it against me that I have borrowed their words and coloured them with my own.
