“My soul comes from better worlds and I have an incurable homesickness of the stars.” (Nikos Kazantzaki)
Versione italiana al link NOSTALGIA - Il ricordo e l’anelito all’unione
"Nostalgia" is the title of my song, which I quote below, lyrics and video, with the fabulous music arrangements of my brother, the composer Madame Madness. I use this term in a romantic and metaphysical sense, not related to a specific land, situation or person; I would like to describe a particular mood that can be fully understood only if intimately felt and experienced.
It is a languor, a yearning, a tension towards a dimension that is, paradoxically, both in front of us and behind us. It is a place/no-place that represents the Alpha and Omega, the origin and the end of every movement: a state of peace, love and completeness beyond any possible mental understanding.
As Massimo Rodolfi writes "Nostalgia for what we have always been and still are, in time and outside of time, which it is not and yet it is, which permeates space, yet it is not space, which tells us all about itself in its infinite creatures, yet it expresses itself through the Voice of Silence”.
I have always felt this call, this nostalgia for a home of the soul where everything is immense embrace, union, meaning and connection, and where the contradictions and painful frictions so typical of our human existence are dissolved.
In the second verse of the song, at the lines "You are the horizon pushing me beyond" some of my friends imagined me referring to a potential partner; this is also because romantic love is commonly considered the human way to become 'complete' and 'happy'. Needless to say, my reference is much more mystical and philosophical than a poor christ (!) who has to suffer me as a partner.
However, one can only respond to the nostalgia for union with Love, that universal force leading us to embrace Life itself in all its iridescent forms, from the garbage truck to the most splendid of sunsets, from the person who insulted us to our most loving partner.
Therefore I conclude this article again with Rodolfi’s words "So if you feel a little nostalgic for something you don't know, if there is, in your life, more and more room for what you consider unknown, that’s good! Keep on cultivating nostalgia for what lies beyond the stars, for what lies beyond the distant Fires, because in the end you will find it within you, and you will find it through Love.”

Lyrics
IT DOESN’T REPRESENT ME AND IT DISORIENTS ME
THE BANALITY OF MEDIOCRITY
WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO BE
I WAS MADE, YOU KNOW, FOR MY OWN SKIES.
I’M IN THE WRONG WORLD, AND THIS IS AWFUL
I’M GOING TO RHAPSODIZE
I'M NOSTALGIC, I'M NOSTALGIC, I'M NOSTALGIC.
I'M A FOREIGNER ON THIS PLANET.
ACROSS THE BORDER
I'M HOMESICK, I'M HOMESICK, I'M HOMESICK.
I'M A PIONEER, STEPS ON THE MOON.
SHOTS FIRED AT THE BORDER
YOU ARE THE HORIZON PUSHING ME BEYOND
THE BANALITY OF MEDIOCRITY
AND MELANCHOLY
I AM MADE, YOU KNOW, FOR YOUR OWN SKIES.
I DO NOT BELONG HERE, BUT I’M STILL LEARNING
I’M GOING TO RHAPSODIZE
