EMOTIONS

"The hardest lockdown is that of our heart."(Sara Bini)

Versione italiana al link Emozioni

Emotions, what torment: those who seek them out, those who avoid them.... are nevertheless an essential part of our experience on this unfortunate planet. The word 'emotion' comes from the Latin verb 'emovere', which means to remove, to transport out, to shake. Emotion is therefore something that shakes us out of our habitual state and should drive us to some kind of movement.

To feel intense emotions, to know how to live with them and let them flow, is an indication of high vitality, as well as a fair degree of emotional and intellectual maturity. Trying to flee emotions is to live under the illusion that nothing changes, that everything can be eternally deferred and postponed, in the naive expectation of a positive external event that will bring resolution and crowning glory to an intentionally flat life.

Emotions are the human being's litmus test: it is never an event that really upsets us, but the emotion it can potentially trigger in us. In order not to go through the so-called 'negative' emotions and make responsible choices about their lives, people sedate and distract themselves in every way - with the internet, with study, with work, with alcohol, with psychotropic drugs.

We still lack the strength to observe those spaces of our consciousness that contain our worst demons but, alas, also our most precious treasures. The depressed person, for example, is a repressed pissed-off person, not a poor victim to be pitied and cuddled, all the more so because he often imposes his deadly and stagnant emotional climate on all those who are unfortunate enough to be around him or her.

Boredom and drowsiness are two other typical resistances that 'save' us from listening to our own heart and feeling. The organism defends itself by literally going into black-out, switching off or becoming bored or engaging the mind in compulsive activities aimed at distracting us from our emotions. For heaven's sake, escaping from one's inner self and the consequent taking of responsibility is our sacrosanct right, which we usually exercise to the full.

However, if we have a bit of intellectual honesty, let us not complain when the famous 'chances' in life always happen to others or when our beloved rulers foist a lot of lies on us and peddle 'miraculous' medical or dietary solutions. After all, it is only a mirror, since the first ones to deceive and lie to us, to manipulate and anesthetize us, are us.

CREARE ABBONDANZA

English version at the link Creating abundance

CREATING ABUNDANCE

"To everyone who has will be given and be in abundance; but from him who does not have will be taken away even what he has."(Gospel)

"The ability to generate money is secretly connected to the degree of openness of the heart."(quot.)

Versione italiana al link : Creare abbondanza

This seemingly paradoxical sentence expresses a great truth. Abundance is an inner feeling, a state of Grace, which must be cultivated independently of the bank account. The more grateful you are to Life for the people who are there and for what you have right now, the more opportunities, encounters and blessings will flow. On the contrary, if you always feel guilty and lacking, you will not even take care of what or who is in your life, you will neglect and lose it. You will not radiate that necessary light that will attract more light into your days. In the long run, indeed, you will unconsciously reject every opportunity for abundance and lose even the little you think you have, be it a job or a relationship.

The ability to generate money and to express love are closely linked. This is not to say that the tycoons of international finance are all Mother Teresa of Calcutta; on the contrary, we know how often they have very little that is noble or human. However, in the absence of psychological blocks related to money, a person with an open heart, with the ability to give himself in relationships and to be sincerely attentive to the needs of others, will find a way to procure his financial independence and provide for his own needs. He may go through 'lean' periods but, on the whole, money, as well as affection or recognition, will sooner or later return to his existence.

My experience, in a nutshell, has always been 'strive to love, even when the other person takes advantage and does not reciprocate: the economy of Life will reward you.' If it does not return in the form of a healthy romance, it will return in the form of work or beautiful friendships. In addition, and perhaps most importantly, our minds become peaceful and harmonized, unfolding into essentially peaceful days and peaceful nights, without the aid of chemical supports.

(Sara Bini)

English version: Don't postpone love

DO NOT POSTPONE LOVE

"It is often easier to send money to Africa or to support the cause of a distant people, than to meet the wishes and needs of those close by."(Sara Bini)

Versione italiana: Non rimandare l'amore

Greetings to my Facebook friends, wishing you all the best for the New Year.

May it be full of joy, enthusiasm, passion and love. Hold on to the people you love and do not be mean.

Do not skimp on that word, that gesture, that élan of the heart that could change the course and quality of a relationship.

Do not postpone love. Then it may be too late.

And this is coming from someone who finds herself alone and evidently unable to love. But never mind and, as Beckett says, I will try again, fail again, fail better.

English version at the link:The language of silent things

THE LANGUAGE OF SILENT THINGS

“Words fail, there are times when even they fail.”(Samuel Beckett)

Sometimes I have fun playing a game of juxtaposition, juxtaposition and dialogue on a particular topic, among my favourite writers and intellectuals. I am badly amused, I am aware, but evidently everyone has the pleasures - or perversions - they deserve.

Here I have compared the words of two Austrian authors from two of their famous works: the philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein with the ending of his Tractatus Logicus-Philosophicus and the poet and playwright Hugo von Hofmannsthal with the touching closing to his Letter from Lord Chandos.

The salient themes are the ineffable, the epiphany of the real and language at the threshold of silence. For me, as a poet, such language is undoubtedly that of poetry, yet it is wonderful to see how philosophy and literature can be two different yet complementary tools for attempting to narrate, sing or explore the unfathomable, elusive Mystery of Life itself.

Duet:

Wittgenstein: We feel that even if all possible scientific questions be answered, the problems of life have still not been touched at all

Hofmannsthal: In these moments an insignificant creature-a dog, a rat, a beetle, a crippled apple tree, a lane winding over the hill, a moss-covered stone, mean more to me than the most beautiful, abandoned mistress of the happiest night. These mute and, on occasion, inanimate creatures rise toward me with such an abundance, such a presence of love, that my enchanted eye can find nothing in sight void of life.

Wittgenstein: There is indeed the inexpressible . This shows itself; it is the Mystical.

Hofmannsthal: Everything that exists, everything I can remember, everything touched upon by my confused thoughts, has a meaning. Even my own heaviness, the general torpor of my brain, seems to acquire a meaning; I experience in and around me a blissful, never-ending interplay, and among the objects playing against one another there is not one into which I cannot flow. To me, then, it is as though my body consists of nought but ciphers which give me the key to everything; or as if we could enter into a new and hopeful relationship with the whole of existence if only we begin to think with the heart.

Wittgenstein: My propositions serve as elucidations in the following way: anyone who understands me eventually recognizes them as nonsensical, when he has used them—as steps—to climb beyond them. (He must, so to speak, throw away the ladder after he has climbed up it.)

He must transcend these propositions, and then he will see the world aright.

Hofmannsthal: As soon, however, as this strange enchantment falls from me, I find myself confused; wherein this harmony transcending me and the entire world consisted, and how it made itself known to me, I could present in sensible words as little as I could say anything precise about the inner movements of my intestines or a congestion of my blood[…]because the language in which I might be able not only to write but to think is neither Latin nor English, neither Italian nor Spanish, but a language none of whose words is known to me, a language in which inanimate things speak to me and wherein I may one day have to justify myself before an unknown judge.

Wittgenstein: Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent.
